Programme Overview

Description

The Electrical Installation Level 1 programme introduces students to the foundational skills required to begin a career in the electrical trade. This hands-on training programme prepares trainees to work safely and efficiently on electrical installation job sites as apprentices or wiremen.

Students learn to read electrical floor plans and apply the National Electrical Code (NEC) when installing electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial structures. Practical training includes installing wiring devices such as circuit breaker panels, lighting systems, and electrical switches.

The programme is aligned with the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) standards and provides the technical knowledge and safety awareness required for entry-level employment in the electrical industry.

Course Modules

This programme is delivered over three semesters with a minimum of six hours of instruction per week, combining classroom learning with hands-on practical training. Students will complete a series of core modules designed to build foundational knowledge and practical skills in electrical installation. The modules introduce students to key industry concepts such as electrical safety, electrical theory, the National Electrical Code (NEC), wiring methods, conduit installation, residential wiring, and the use of electrical testing equipment. Some topics may require additional instructional time to ensure students gain sufficient practical experience and understanding of essential electrical installation techniques.

Introduces workplace hazards, personal protective equipment (PPE), and essential electrical safety practices, including OSHA lockout/tagout procedures.

Covers the fundamentals of electrical theory, including Ohm’s Law, electrical power equations, and the basic components used in electrical circuits.

Introduces the National Electrical Code and explains how electricians use it to ensure electrical installations meet safety and regulatory requirements.

Teaches the techniques used to bend conduit and install raceways, including 90-degree bends, offsets, and saddle bends used in electrical installations.

Focuses on the installation of residential electrical systems, including branch circuits, wiring devices, outlet boxes, and basic load calculations.
